Beware Bushfires!
From October until March 31, all residents are encouraged not only to be aware that we are in an official bush fire danger season, but also to cooperate with our local Rural Fire Service which is ready to respond to any incident.
Recent heavy rain only heightens our awareness of fire hazards, because it will boost a rapid growth of vegetation which quickly dries off and becomes an even bigger threat than we already face. It is important that any fire hazards are identified and reported to the Rural Fire Service.
All residents are urged to make sure their home insurance has not lapsed or is up to date and that until March next year you need a permit from the Rural Fire Service to burn off vegetation. We have suffered major bush fires in the Shire in 1975, 1981, 1991, 1994, and 2002. The three major causes are careless use of fire, power line cables, and arson.
Keeping your home and your yard free of potential “fuel” is important in bushfire management. For valuable information on what to do about fire hazards, visit the Rural Fire service help site at www.bushfire.nsw.gov.au or their bush fire advice site at www.firewise.net.au.
